NFL: Redskins overcome mistakes to beat Cardinals

Redskins pull out victory despite blown chances
Washington kept finding ways to self-destruct, blowing so many chances that the Redskins found themselves trailing by eight in the fourth quarter. They finally rallied, and not a moment too soon.
Rex Grossman's fourth-and-3, 18-yard touchdown pass to Santana Moss got the deficit within two with 5:17 remaining. The 2-point conversion attempt failed, but Graham Gano's 34-yard field goal with 1:45 remaining gave the Redskins (2-0) the lead.
"You have to be able to close the door," Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. "We didn't close the door. "
Grossman completed 25 of 43

Daniel Sedin still haunted by Canucks? Stanley Cup loss

comrie-21.jpg?w=175&h=250

Upon further review, a whole summer of it, Daniel Sedin says he still wouldn’t have punched back at Boston Bruins pest Brad Marchand during Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final.
It was one of the endearing memories of the Canucks’ bitter series defeat, the brash Bruin rookie repeatedly swatting the NHL scoring champ in the face following a play stoppage in the Canuck zone. Marchand administered at least six gloved punches without being fed one back.
It still rankles in some parts of Canuck Nation that the five-foot-nine Marchand was permitted to escape scot-free from that villainy and boast

2011 NFL Training Camp: Cardinals Flee Flagstaff After Spirited Final Practice

nflfootball.jpg

The Arizona Cardinals finished their 2011 NFL Training Camp in Flagstaff with a spirited full practice in shells on Thursday morning. Players were clearly feeling the "last day of school" mentality but instead of reacting with distraction or disinterest the team turned up the intensity, and even fun, to another level.
"I thought we'd have a lot of guys who already had their cars running, but they worked. The tempo was good and they paid attention to detail. That's a good sign which will hopefully show up Saturday night (in the preseason game versus the Chargers)," coach Ken Whisenhunt said.

30603-330-0.jpg

He has a big name, though not yet a big game – but Minnesota center Ralph Sampson has entered the 2011 NBA Draft.
Sampson’s inclusion on the NBA's official early entry list came as a surprise Thursday, when it was released by the league.
There always are a few minor revelations when the NBA releases its official compilation of early entries, which the league delays by a few days past the declaration deadline so it can be sure it has heard from everybody who is interested in being included.
Among those whose presence among the early entries was not known

2011 NFL Mock Draft: New York Giants Want Mike Pouncey to Protect Eli Manning

With a quarterback like Eli Manning with a pension for turnovers, giving him time to make the right decisions is pivotal.
Manning can get shaken and the Giants need to protect him. A good offensive lineman can stop keep Manning upright and out of trouble.
There has been issues on the New York offensive line for years and it would be a good start for the rebuilding process.
Todd McShay: Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin
This is right where we project Carimi, and he would make sense both on the field and financially. Taking him would allow the Giants to move

Kentucky's Brandon Knight Likely to Stay in NBA Draft

According to Brandon Knight's mother said that she knows her son will finish his degree—and a likely option is through summer classes while in the NBA, regardless of a looming lockout.
"If that (a lockout) happens, he won't get paid whether he's in the NBA or college," Knight's mother said.  "We have been taking care of him for 19 years.  What is one more year?  The worst case scenario if he stays in the draft is that he would not get paid, but we can handle that if it happens.  We're used to that."
Knight is currently projected as a

Strong indications Kings may be in Sacramento next year

kings1.jpg

This isn't a half-court shot for Kevin Johnson, the former NBA player turned Sacramento mayor who's running point in his city's attempt to save their Kings. It's one of those shots from the old McDonald's commercials featuring Michael Jordan and Larry Bird: "Off the expressway, over the river, off the billboard, through the window, off the wall, nothing but net."
Johnson's full-court heave hasn't found net just yet, but it's becoming quite clear that the city of Anaheim should hold off on that first bite into the celebratory Big Mac.
While the outcome is far from certain here, there are

NHL Trade Rumors: 5 Teams That Would Love to Trade Up in the 2011 NHL Draft

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Adam Larsson, and Johnathan Huberdeau aren't considered the type of elite prospects past drafts have provided, but the headliners of the 2011 NHL Draft could certainly cause a handful of teams to work the phones in an attempt to move up in the draft.
With the 2011 NHL Draft Lottery wrapped up, and the 2011 NHL Playoffs helping to determine the rest of the draft order, teams now know how far they need to jump to grab their most coveted prospects.
A number of teams have already expressed an interest in trying to obtain a higher selection in

After pleading with the NBA Board of Governors to keep the Kings in Sacramento, Mayor Kevin Johnson arrived at the Sacramento International Airport Sunday to cheers from supporters.

"We had a good showing (in New York.) We built a compelling case on why Sacramento's a viable market. We talked about creating new revenue streams," Johnson said Sunday at the airport.

A couple weeks ago, sports radio talker Carmichael Dave was critical of the mayor, but he changed his tune Sunday. He helped organize the last minute gathering among Kings supports to thank the mayor at the airport.

"I'm very vocal

First time is exciting, even in loss

Playing his sixth full year of NHL hockey, and first for the Bruins, Campbell played in his first playoff game last night. So did Nathan Horton, who spent six fruitless seasons with the Panthers, never getting a chance at the playoffs.

It was everything they expected — the adrenaline rush as they took the ice before a roaring sold-out crowd at TD Garden, the thrill that was difficult to tamp down as a wide-eyed Horton looked around the arena during the national anthems, drinking in an experience he had long imagined.

But the playoff rookies learned about postseason thrills
